Comic-Con must-sees: ‘Stranger Things’ season 2 and Spielberg’s ‘Ready Player One’
Comic-Con used to be the domain of hard-core comic book fans but since the heroes became cool, mainstream and inclusive of the other half of the population thanks to characters like Wonder Woman, it's a hotly anticipated calendar highlight for lovers of knockout entertainment. And this year's event was a bonanza of gasp-worthy reveals and standing ovations. From new Black Panther footage to a Westworld season 2 teaser to the new Thor: Raganork trailer, Comic-Con 2017 was seriously stacked. But the two hottest properties at the event came from the classic 80s sci-fi genre via a new clip of legendary director, Steven Spielberg's upcoming flick, Ready Player One and a thrilling new trailer for Netflix's Stranger Things season two.
Spielberg's Ready Player One is based on the Ernie Cline novel of the same name and offers an action-packed ride through '80s obsessed teen, Wade Watts (played by X-Men: Apocalypse alumni Tye Sheridan), life which revolves around winning a virtual reality game called the Oasis. "They called our generation the missing millions, not because we went anywhere because there's no where left to go except the Oasis," says Watts in the trailer. The author of the novel, Ernie Cline co-wrote the screenplay and in Spielberg's expert hands the film adaptation looks set to become a sci-fi cultural touchstone in the vein of ET or Close Encounters.

Netflix's 80-set sci-fi thriller Stranger Things is at best spine-tingling, at worst nightmare-making, the kind of exceptional TV that makes you think the events could actually be real and is the reason the first season became a surprise runaway hit with both fans and critics (season one scored 18 Emmy nominations). So the excitement for the upcoming season two has been palpable, a trailer was released earlier this year and now a new 'thriller' trailer has dropped at Comic-Con. The upcoming season is set a year after Will's rescue from the Upside Down and reveals a new terror has moved into the small fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana.

Stranger Things season two will premier on Netflix in October this year, Ready Player One will be in cinemas March 2018.
