Australian author Liane Moriarty must have been cheering after scoring the ultimate writer end goal: having her book Big Little Lies optioned into a HBO series. A joint effort between Hollywood heavyweights Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, the eagerly anticipated series has attracted an impressive cast, including Witherspoon and Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Alexander Skarsgard, Laura Dern, Adam Scott and Zoë Kravitz.

Based on a trio of interconnected Kindergarden mothers at a small beachside school, during its journey from page to screen, the black comedy/murder mystery has had an intriguing facelift. Transporting the story from Sydney's North Shore to what looks like an unnamed West Coast location in the States, the one minute teaser shows that the story has also been sexed up for the small screen. Focusing more on the relationships of the adults, the trailer makes the narrative seem decidedly more raunchy than readers of the book will remember the.

All differences aside though, HBO has a pretty impeccable track record for nailing the tone and essence of a novel (eg. Game of Thrones, Sex and the City) so we're pretty confident they'll get this one right. Watch the teaser trailer below.

Big Little Lies is set to premiere on HBO in February 2017.
