We recently shared the news that leading A-list actress Jennifer Lawrence is set to play Zelda Fitzgerald in award-winning director Ron Howard's picture, Zelda, and in a breaking report from The Hollywood Reporter it appears Hollywood beauty, Scarlett Johansson, is also attached to a picture about the same fascinating dame.
Johansson's project is aptly titled The Beautiful and the Damned, referencing one of Zelda's husband's most famous novels, The Beautiful and Damned. First published in 1922, the novel portrays New York's elite café society during the Jazz Age with the complex relationships depicted in the classic generally thought to be based on Fitzgerald's relationship with wife Zelda. If the movie is anything like the novel - a tale of love, money, decadence and society - it will be a compelling piece of cinematic viewing.
Plus, The Beautiful and the Damned may have an authentic insider edge on rival flick Zelda - Millennium Films, the money behind The Beautiful and the Damned secured the cooperation of the Fitzgerald estate on the film and have indicated they will incorporate scandalous transcripts recently uncovered from the sanatorium Zelda Fitzgerald was confined to (she suffered from Schizophrenia) in the film. Hanna Weg (Septembers of Shiraz) has penned the screenplay and a director is yet to be announced.
