It's hard to believe it's nearly August. It seems like only a few weeks ago we were holding a sparkler in one hand and a glass of champagne in the other toasting to the beginning of 2017. As much as we're scared to blink in case the rest of the year suddenly flashes by, with every new month we find solace in the new round of TV series and movies that Netflix has on offer, and for August, it's all about action and superheroes. You better stock up on your popcorn, chocolate and wine, because chances are you will not be leaving your room this month.

'Marvel: The Defenders' - Season 1

The most anticipated series to hit Netflix this August is Marvel's 'The Defenders'. Starring Charlie Cox as Daredevil, Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, and Finn Jones as Iron Fist, all reprising their roles from their individual series, 'The Defenders' follows the superheros on their quest to save New York City. But it's not all fighting villains and saving cities; in typical Marvel fashion there is sure to be a romantic plot or two.

'Animal Kingdom' - Season 2

Season one introduced us to Joshua "J' Cody, who's sent to live with his formidable and criminal grand mother and uncles in California after his drug-addict mother dies. If the amount of drugs, crime and violence in 'Animal Kingdom' season one is anything to go by, season two is looking to be completely addictive.

'Shooter' - Season 2

Season one of 'Shooter' was one of the most live watched series in the US, far above cult favourites 'Mr. Robot' and 'Suits'. The production level for season two is said to be even higher, with the series moving faster and showcasing more subplots. Ryan Phillipe is okay to look at too.

'Mad Max: Fury Road'

If you haven't seen this blockbuster, set aside 2 hours of your time one weekend and watch it. The production level is off the charts, you almost feel like you are part of the post-apocalyptic world. Charlize Theron's character, Furiosa is a strong, independent woman, and not to mention, she can pull off a buzz cut in a way that makes you almost want to pick up an electric razor.

'Marvel:  Doctor Strange'

It's all about superheros this August, so while we're here we will also be watching last years critically acclaimed 'Doctor Strange'.  It's not your typical action movie, portraying a sorcerer as a superhero (played by one of our faves, Benedict Cumberbatch). Cumberbatch is an unusual, but entertaining addition to the superhero club and well worth the watch.
