From Chin Chin to Delta Goodrem: inside the launch party for Melbourne's most luxurious property development yet...

Last Thursday evening, amid culinary pop ups from Chin Chin, MoVida, Rosetta and Sake Bar & Restaurant, a bunch of special guests celebrated the official launch of Melbourne Square. Feasting on specialties like spanner crab betel leaves and Messina ice-cream, attendees sipped on cocktails poured by Eau de Vie and Boilermaker House mixologists as they explored the model kitchens and bathrooms of the yet-to-be-built luxury complex.

Located in Melbourne's Southbank, the sprawling residential development is set to transform a former car park into a state-of-the-art village featuring six apartment towers, stunning vertical gardens, a public park and a retail centre. A joint venture between OSK  Property and Employees Provident Fund Malaysia, the project has been designed by Cox Architecture, with interiors by Carr Design.

One of the most high-profile guests in attendance on the night, Delta Goodrem spoke enthusiastically about the project, describing it as having the "best designers and the best architects". A self-confessed "total Mebourne girl", Delta's love of the city has propelled her to find a base in the Victorian capital for both personal play and investment. "I love the culture, the arts, the good coffee and the friendly people," she said. "I feel like I've got such a heartbeat here, I'd like to find a space here. All my ancestors came from Melbourne out on farms, and I just have this real affinity with it, [especially] since my career [on Neighbours] started here."

Splitting half her time between Melbourne and Sydney this year alone, Delta has kept busy with commitments for The Voice, Cats, House Husbands and an arena tour. But despite having such a packed schedule, she has a day in the life of Melbourne all figured out. "I love Supernormal next the Regent Theatre," she says, "[As well as] Ugly Duckling and Chapel Street for shopping, then a glass of wine at Thirty Eight Chairs or Mr Bond." Based on her recommendations alone, we're starting to see the appeal of Melbourne, too.
