It's a black affair on the 2018 Golden Globes red carpet bringing light to the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements

If there is one red carpet trend to emerge from the 2018 Golden Globe Awards it is the colour black; most, if not all actors have arrived wearing black. Although the hue is slimming (as they say) and universally flattering, there is a deeper statement being made, and in the wake of the #MeToo campaign, it is a very obvious one.

The dress-code was announced last week through the newly formed organisation Time's Up - a group of over 300 women in the entertainment industry who have come together in the aftermath of the sexual assault allegations to end sexual misconduct against women. In addition to the Golden Globes dress code, the organisation has raised $US13 million (AU$16.6 million) to fund legal defence for women who have experienced sexual assault or abuse.
