5 things you missed at David Jones S/S ’16 show
About last night
It may have been drizzling, windy and miserable outside, but guests at the David Jones S/S '16 collection launch were dreaming of a balmy Australian summer, thanks to the pretty dresses, bikinis and boardshorts on display on the runway. With model appearances by David Jones ambassadors Jessica Gomes, Jesinta Campbell, Montana Cox, Jason Dundas, plus surprise appearances by Jarrod Scott, Gemma Ward and The Preatures - there was much to talk about at the Fox Studio event. Guests included Julie Bishop, Lisa Wilkinson, Peter FitzSimons, Sarah Ellen, Tim Robards, Anna Heinrich, Emma Lung, Kit Willow, Kym Ellery, Buddy Franklin, Alice McCall and many more.
Here, we list the top five highlights.
1. Jessica Gomes goes blonde
At last season's A/W '16 launch Jess showed off a Rooney Mara-style braid, but for summer, she debuted a striking blonde look. While normally a brunette, Jess proved she can pull off the blonde bombshell look with aplomb. (For a peek at her pre-David Jones show regime, head here)
2. Summer bodies were OUT
It's not a spring/summer fashion show without a bit of skin - and the leaders of the pack were undoubtedly Jessica Gomes, Jesinta Campbell and Jason Dundas, who were flanked by a bunch of equally tanned and toned models.
It's not quite bikini season yet, but the bodies on display certainly made us think about our current training regimes...
3. Gemma Ward's return to the DJs catwalk
The veteran Australian model proved why she's a true professional - taking to the runway after the recent announcement that she's 14 weeks pregnant. Dressed in a series of outfits by the likes of Camilla and Zimmermann, Gemma's appearance marked the second time she'd walked for David Jones. Her first time? When she was just 15.
4. The Preatures closed the show
Performing their breakout hit 'Is This How You Feel?', Aussie band The Preatures gave the show its climactic, final burst of music. Lead singer Isabella Manfredi strutted down the catwalk wearing Ellery, and the band later performed three more songs at the after party, including new single 'I Know a Girl'.
5. The glittering finale
If The Preatures brought the music, the glitter bombs and balloons added the magic. As models Jessica Gomes, Jesinta Campbell, Montana Cox and Gemma Ward showed off Zimmermann's latest creations, balloons and silver glitter guns tore through the Fox Studio space. It was a fitting ending to the show. Bring on summer.
