From the Blue Mountains to Byron Bay, we've rounded up the most jaw-dropping Airbnb experiences perfect for a lazy weekend in the country. How's the serenity

Waking up to the smell of fresh gum leaves, a gentle ocean breeze billowing through the curtains and a kookaburra saluting the morning sun. If there's a quicker route to stress relief, I'd like to know about it.

According to a recent global survey by Airbnb, Australian's can't get enough of regional holidaying. The survey discovered that more than half of its bookings are now for stays in country or coastal towns.

Australia is the only major country in the world where regional Airbnb stays outnumber city bookings, accounting for 56 per cent, or 1.7 million guest arrivals, last year.

While foreign visitors are flocking to our major cities with their Airbnb-available spare rooms, it is locals flying interstate for mini-breaks who are fuelling the growing popularity of lazy long weekends in the country.

The most popular regional destinations for Airbnb travellers were Cairns, Noosa and the Gold Coast in Queensland, Byron Bay in NSW, the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, Margaret River in Western Australia, and Robe, Victor Harbor and Kangaroo Island in South Australia.
