Why, you ask? Two words: Lou Doillon. The daughter of Jane Birkin (and, oh, Charlotte Gainsbourg's sister) is making her first trip down under to headline the annual French festival in Sydney this Saturday, performing songs from her latest LP, Lay Low.

If you, like us, have been charting the Parisian singer-songwriter, actor, model and all-round cool girl's style cues for the better part of a decade, this is your chance to savour her own brand of je ne sais quoi up close.

Joining Doillon on stage is lounge-pop/disco duo Brigitte, Moroccan-born folk and blues star Hindi Zahra and gypsy hip-hop collective Soviet Suprem. But So Frenchy So Chic is so much more than music - it's the one day a year that Sydneysiders can experience a little slice of Paris in the park (St Johns College never looked so good). Read: a day spent lolling about on picnic blankets, sipping champagne and tucking into Simmone Logue's French-inspired treats in the (hopefully) sunshine.

Why this year's So Frenchy So Chic is a must-go

Of course, one needs to look one's effortless best when in the presence of French style royalty, so Kérastase are on hand with a pop-up braid bar on the main lawn. The Kérastase styling team will be offering complimentary braids to all festivalgoers - choose from an undone fishtail, a swept-back side braid or a braid and bun. Or you could just ask for whatever Doillon has.
