Traditionally, "pay-by-the-minute" hotels haven't been associated with the most savoury of intentions, but, now there is an app ready to change that.

Just like Uber for hotel rooms, Recharge is a newly-launched startup out of San Francisco that now allows you to book a nearby hotel by the minute, based off your location. Then, you have 15 minutes to arrive and check-in before your timer starts ticking.

"Essentially, what we're selling is your house," said Recharge CEO and cofounder Manny Bamfo in an interview with Tech Insider. "There, you have a bed, you have total privacy, you can jump up and down and do a cartwheel. But sometimes, home is just too expensive to get to because of time or distance. That's where we come in."
Bamfo also says the idea came to him after watching Uber and Lyft drivers drive around the city without anywhere to rest or revitalise (other than fast food joints). Soon, he realised there was a  market for not only drivers, but students, business professionals and travellers wanting somewhere more quiet to go (and often, a shower to use) than their local Starbucks. His first client was a breastfeeding woman wanting a private place to pump-  so he knew his market was there.

Beyond the negative assumptions, there's no denying that we've all been in situations where we've wanted to a nearby gym, shower or bath, quiet place with wifi, a room with a view to chill out in or simply, somewhere to take a nap and now, at the tap of a screen and around $0.66 or $40 (depending on the hotel) for an hour, it's a reality. Actually, it's one of those things where the more you think about it, the more you realise you need this app in your life.

Unfortunately, Recharge is only currently available in San Francisco but has big plans to launch worldwide. Watch this space.
