The weed-friendly gym giving new meaning to the term ‘runner’s high’
Just place this in the 'WFT?' files: San Francisco gym Power Plant Fitness (geddit?) has announced plans to become marijuana-friendly: allowing users to consume and vape weed on the premises. Co-owner Jim McAlpine is apparently a major proponent for the 'toke and train' school of thought, having founded a series of lifestyle events called 420 Games that are solely focused on promoting "the healthy and responsible use of cannabis."
In an interview with Tech Insider, McAlpine says the gym is a way of reversing negative stereotypes surrounding lazy pot smokers (You don't say.) "It won't be a place to get high and just screw around," he says in this blog. "We are focused on the athletic side, not the cannabis side." According to McAlpine, all members will have to undertake a "cannabis performance assessment" (we're guessing this isn't some kind of bong-ripping competition?) before joining, with Power Plant Fitness focusing on giving members advice on how to best ingest their cannabis. While McAlpine might be the first stoner in the universe to get baked and actually feel like doing exercise, we have to applaud his passion and dedication to the cause.
With vaping and ingestibles on the agenda, McAlpine says he eventually wants to create an outdoor smoking deck for those who like to get high the old-fashioned way. Unsurprisingly, McAlpine belives marijuana is great for athletes. "I think sports will become one of the bigger pieces of the marijuana industry," he says. "It's very much in line with the idea that people and society are starting to understand that marijuana is medicine. Marijuana, if you use it in a responsible way, accentuates the parts of sports that you love and helps you to do them better." Um, ok.
Only in California, right? We guess this is what happens when you legalise marijuana...
