1. Kanye West declares he's $53 million in debt - and asks Mark Zuckerberg for cash
In another random Twitter diatribe, the world's most quotable rapper called on Zuckerberg and Google founder Larry Page to sponsor 'Kanye West ideas,' tweeting: "I write this to you my brothers while still 53 million dollars in personal debt... please pray we overcome." He added that Zuckerberg and Page should recognise that he is "the greatest living artist and greatest artist of all time" and "this generation's Disney."

2. There's yet another reason to eat kale
Researchers from Melbourne University and the UK's University of York have discovered that leafy greens promote good gut bacteria - and it's all thanks to their sugar content. Surprisingly, greens, including spinach, kale, broccoli and herbs, contain a sugar molecule - SQ - that the bacteria feeds on.

3. A dead body and millions of cash have been found on a US jet in Zimbabwe
The Western Global Airlines cargo jet was impounded by authorities at Zimbabwe's airport after millions of South African rand and a body, thought at this stage to be a stowaway, were found on board.

4. Letters reveal Pope John Paul II's 32-year relationship with a woman
A BBC program airing this week brings the intimate letters, between the late pope and Polish philosopher Anna-Teresa Tymieniecka, to light. The Vatican has said it was known that John Paul II and Tymieniecka were "friendly." The letters don't, however, reveal that the Pope broke his vow of celibacy.

5. Academy Award winner Benicio Del Toro has been announced as a cast member of Star Wars: Episode VIII
Disney has confirmed that production for the eighth film, which is slated for a December 2017 release, has begun in London. Del Toro will be joined by fellow newbies Laura Dern and Kellie Marie Tran, along with original cast members Carrie Fisher, Lupita Nyong'o, Mark Hamill and Adam Driver, among others.
