Anthony Lister's credentials are a little different to your average graffiti artist - he completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the Queensland College of the Arts before winning the 2004 Queensland Education Minister's Art Award, for instance - but that's probably because he's not your average graffiti artist.
Sure, take a stroll through Sydney's Surry Hills and you're bound to spot one of his arresting characters popping off a brick wall, but his sought-after works are also found in galleries from Milan to London, San Francisco to Melbourne, and every arts hub in between.
His latest exhibition kicks off on April 11 at the prestigious Robert Fontaine Gallery in Miami. His influences are clear across the works on display: erratic cartoon characters, flawed superheroes, pop art and yes, grafitti - making for a fascinating blend of high and mainstream culture.
