Just when you thought CEO Evan Spiegel had already revolutionised the social media world, the whiz kid has announced Snapchat will be releasing their first ever hardware: video-recording sunglasses.

The sunglasses are called "Spectacles" and appear to look like any normal pair of sunnies. But when you hit a button near the hinge (think Bond, James Bond), the sunglasses have the ability to record 10 second videos, which transfers directly to your snapchat app.

"We've created one of the smallest wireless video cameras in the world, capable of taking a day's worth of Snaps on a single charge, and we integrated it seamlessly into a fun pair of sunglasses," the brand explained.

The news coincided with the announcement that Snapchat will be officially rebranded as Snap Inc. The company explained the renaming is a result of the product expansion: "Now that we are developing other products, like Spectacles, we need a name that goes beyond just one product - but doesn't lose the familiarity and fun of our team and brand."
