It must suck to be royal sometimes. Despite enjoying a life of wealth and extreme privilege (invitations to visit the Star War set, anyone?) there's also the complete lack of privacy that comes with a royal title. As you're probably aware, every media outlet in the Western world has been salivating over the news that Prince Harry, roguish younger brother of the future King of England, has a new girlfriend. But in the week or so since the news broke, the lucky lady in question - American actress Meghan Markle - has endured the kind of online abuse and paparazzi attention that we can barely imagine. And Prince Harry is not happy.
In a rare release to the public, Kensington Palace released a statement via its Twitter page (yep, @KensingtonRoyal is an actual thing. Who knew?) late last night condemning worldwide press, paparazzi and online trolls for the treatment of Markle and her family. According to the statement, which you can read in full below, Markle and her family have been subjected to an overwhelming amount of attention - some of it outright racist and sexist in nature, which is horrific enough in itself.

Markle, whose Dad is Caucasian and mum African American, has been viciously targeted for being bi-racial, which is a pretty sad marker of the times we're living in. While most news outlets have been quick to report on this rare royal announcement, we wait to see whether this will have any effect on the notoriously nasty tabloids and social media trolls. For Meghan's sake, we sure hope so.
