If Zaha Hadid was Luke Skywalker and Issey Miyake was Obi-Wan Kenobi, this is what light sabers would look like
So says San Fran design firm Y Studios, which has reimagined the Star Wars' franchise's most iconic prop as if it was designed by Zaha Hadid, Issey Miyake, Charles and Ray Eames, Edith Heath and Dieter Rams. Crazy? Maybe a little. But if there's one thing we've learnt in the lead-up to the next episode, it's that Star Wars fans like their collector's items. A lot.
Each light saber, designed by Y Studios, is fashioned in line with the aesthetic of each of their aforementioned design heroes: the Zaha Hadid model features curved lines and a laser-cut handle; the Issey Miyake borrows for the style of Samurai swords and references the designer's Bao Bao bag and the Eames saber was inspired by the iconic Eames Lounge Chair with walnut and leather. They've presented the project in six episodes, Star Wars style, featuring one designer per episode plus a short documentary that reveals the design process.
