Just weeks after giving birth to twins Sir and Rumi, Beyoncé has announced a new charity endeavour, aimed at bringing clean water to citizens in remote areas of Burundi, East Africa, in particular, vulnerable children.

Beyonce teams up with UNICEF for new BeyGOOD initiative

Through her philanthropic foundation BeyGOOD, the global entertainer  is teaming up with UNICEF for the multi-year partnership titled 'BeyGOOD4BURUNDI', to implement much needed programs to improve water, sanitation and basic hygiene practices in some of the hardest-to-reach areas of Burundi, where currently nearly half the population have no access to safe water.

And sadly, the water crisis is having the biggest impact on children, with the leading cause of death in children under five being water-borne diseases resulting from drinking contaminated water. But Beyoncé hopes the initiative will provide a brighter future to these young children.

"Access to water is a fundamental right," says Beyoncé. When you give children clean and safe water, you don't just give them life, you give them health, an education, and a brighter future. I am committed to helping drive lasting solutions to the water crisis in Burundi."

The initiative which is supported by CHIME FOR CHANGEGlobal Citizen and Gucci, will start its mission by constructing new wells equipped with hand pumps, implementing hygiene education and improving water and sanitation facilities in schools and rural communities where children are chronically malnourished.

With UNICEF helping more than 100 million people gain access to water, sanitation and hygiene services in the last three years alone, we're hoping that with the added help and influence of megastar Beyoncé, their impact is even greater.
