While fashion designers like Tom Ford and Gucci are making moves to show in London, British interior and lifestyle designer Tom Dixon has done the opposite. In a move that has us wondering, 'what took so long?', the London-based cult status brand has opened its first store in Soho.
Designed by Dixon and his team, the store opened earlier this month and has been described by the designer as "a service centre for professionals, where the complete catalogue of 'extraordinary products for everyday use' can be shown, explained demonstrated and, of course, purchased." On top of carrying the full Tom Dixon lighting, furniture and accessories collection, including many new additions, such as the chic, new brew coffee collection, the street-level store also offers a design consultation service for both residential and commercial projects. In the past, Dixon's Design Research Studio, the large-scale design leg of his brand, has worked on fit-outs for the Mondrian Hotel in London's Sea Containers Building, the Metropolitan Wharf residential development on the River Thames and the Manhattan HQ of lauded advertising agency, McCann Worldgroup, so there's no doubt the brand's services will get snapped up by NYC locals wanting to add a dose of Dixon's signature use of raw materials, sculptural accents and British eccentricity to their life.
