Vivid Sydney , a festival of the coolest American films and unseen Bowie, Noelle Faulkner rounds up the best ways to get more cultured in May.

Guess what?

Happy almost winter. Are you whinging as much as I was at the turn of this month? Are you hayfevering all lover the place?  Squeezing as many saltwater sessions in as you possibly can, while the water is warm and the sun is still (kinda) burning bright? Bummed because you're about to get hit with S.A.D? Well, despite the common assumption that winer in Australia sucks, because we actually do it quite well, culturally speaking...

Just take a look at May: This month we not only see Vivid kick off in Sydney and a wonderful Van Gogh exhibition open at Melbourne's NGV, but also, we welcome authors, podcasters and written-word influencers for the Sydney Writer's Festival; two really fantastic film festivals and a big day out for the doggos.

And just because you're cracking out the winter clothing and the heavy doona doesn't mean you have to commit to a new life of literal Netflix and chill.... UNLESS you're watching the return of Twin Peaks, then, of course you're forgiven. Also, don't forget to call your mother this mother's day.
