The Buro 24/7 culture guide: July
Do, see, hear, read
Seeking ways to warm up this winter? Buro culturemaker Noelle Faulkner edits the best in cultural happenings every day in July.
Normally, this space right here is where I bang on about the month's pros and cons and generally tell a story that relates to the overall cultural climate of the month...well, I broke my heater this week, so I've got nothing but the chills. Last month, I complained about the cold and noted how temping it was to just stay in bed with a hot body and watch Game of Thrones. Looking back, I can see that I indeed knew nothing, now that winter has come.
Because I believe in silver linings, I did a bit of research. Did you know that cold weather burns more calories? Yep. We also think more sharply when we're cold and we sleep better too. Cold weather can also reduce the impact of a hangover and sore muscles, as it reduces inflammation - which explains why I can drink so much schnapps at the snow and still get up at the crack of dawn to hit the slopes. THE MORE YOU KNOW.
Anyway, this month's greatest hits see quite a few film festivals touring the country, including the Scandinavian Film Festival, Queensland Film Fest and the Melbourne International Film Festival. Beyond that, there are plenty of great musical drops to play soundtrack to your hot water bottle nights -not to mention a huge amount of acts in town for Splendour, and a rad reason to get to the snow - that is, beyond the ones I just gave you. Stay cool.
