With her doll-like features and lithe 177cm frame, it's no small wonder that Gabby Westbrook's star is on the rise. Here, the Sydney-bred model - fresh from walking Tuesday night's Kookai Cruise runway show (on a boat on Sydney Harbour, no less!) - shares the secrets to staying runway and bikini-ready year round.
What kind of exercise training do you do before a big bikini shoot or runway show? And what do you eat?
I work out and eat clean consistently throughout the year. I try to not put so much pressure on myself and my body to get in shape for a particular shoot, because I end up binge eating or feeling deprived of what I really want. I'm a pescatarian, so my diet consists of mainly salads, sashimi and cold-pressed juices.
I run on the treadmill for 40 minutes, and I finish with some floor exercises and stretches. If I don't have the time to work out, I find a way to integrate exercise into my day, whether it be biking home, or meeting a friend for a walk.
What does an average day on plate look like?
I usually start the day with an omelette with lots of fresh vegetables, like mushroom, spinach and tomato. For lunch, I love Japanese cuisine; sushi, sashimi, and seaweed salads. Around 4pm, I'll have a smoothie, maybe something sweet with berries and almond milk. And for dinner, I'll have a big salad, with a vegan protein, like tofu or a nut based cheese.
Do you have any secret training tips you've picked up that you can share with us?
Don't forget to breathe. It sounds like a no brainer, but often we forget to pace our breaths, and end up running out of energy too quickly.
What's your favourite workout and why?
Anything outdoors. I love playing tennis, or skiing in winter.
Which exercise do you hate the most??
What are your tips for: toning your butt, a flat stomach, sculpting arms, slimming thighs?
I love Pilates because it targets every muscle, starting with the core. It's overall a great workout, because it improves your posture, your flexibility and is gentle on all your joints.
What's your biggest food weakness?
What's the one thing that most model workout routines have in common?
Consistency. We have to stay in shape all year round for our job, so exercise is part of our routine every day.
