With so much weight loss advice out there, working out how to drop extra 'baggage' can feel like an incomprehensibly hard task, so the kilos just stay put. But it doesn't have to be that way. Going back to basics and making a couple of simple changes can be the key to shedding any unwanted kilos and keeping them off.

Here, ambassador for sports nutrition company Body Science and all round fitness expert Dan Conn shares his three best, basic tips for losing weight and keeping it off:

Be consistent: make a workout plan and stick to it. If you're looking to lose kilos, I'd suggest two strength and two-to-three cardio-based workouts per week. Or try an Orange Theory workout on the cardio days, it measures your heart rate so you can ensure that you are in the 'fat burn zone' for a desired amount of time.

Meal prep: they say that failure to prepare is preparing to fail and I agree, on days when I'm really hungry and don't have ready-made healthy food at home, I often give in to having unhealthy take away. So make sure you have all the ingredients in the house for meals for the week ahead and healthy snacks like protein balls, blueberries, walnuts and Body Science protein shakes.

Fasting: to keep your metabolism high and burning, fasting every two-to-three-weeks (for around one day) is one of my top go-tos. Apple cider vinegar capsules are also a great option to keep your metabolism running and to help digestion.
