A quick history lesson: iconic shopping haunt the QVB spent its founding years as a bustling farmer's market, supplying Sydney's early settlers with fresh produce and drapery fabrics. This week, it's returning to its roots, hosting a five-day market on the southern precinct of level one.
QVB foodie favourites - think Doughnut Time, Nutorious and The Tea Room - will be joined by Sydney-wide meccas including Salt Meats Cheese, Sonoma, Koko Black, Spoon & Fork and Pepe Saya. Many are offering one-off specials for the market, from Doughnut Time's bespoke QVB Doughnut to Salt Meats Cheese's three cheese and truffled mushroom toastie.
Sought-after Double Bay florist Mr Cook will set up shop under the QVB's dome and is also lending his styling talents to the market stalls, with freshly cut flowers and foliage on display.
The QVB Marketplace opens 10am-4pm daily from Wednesday August 3 to Sunday August 7. It stays open until 7pm on the Thursday night.
