It's a far cry from the former French establishment (which, FYI, is moving to Darling Harbour) that used to call this prime corner spot home, but the crowds heading to The Argyle are going to love it: El Camino Cantina is The Rocks' answer to El Loco, serving up Tex-Mex food, craft beers (both Mexcian and house-brewed) and cocktails in a space that feels more bar than restaurant.
That could be the effect of the retro neon lights, restored 1957 Chevy trunks (filled with corn chips and salsa for guests to help themselves to) and live DJs. Come on a Tuesday, Friday or Saturday and you'll even get a live mariachi band with your quesadillas and margaritas.
The menu revolves around classic Tex Mex flavours, with the usual tacos-fajita-nachos-enchilada-burrito offering, plus the Ghost Chilli BBQ Burger and chicken wings made, so they say, with the world's hottest chillis. Wash it all down with sangria or one of the 200+ tequilas and mescals behind the bar, and you'll be dancing with the band in a scarily short period of time.
