It's fair to say there's not a foodie-loving soul in (or outside) Sydney who hasn't heard of The Grounds of Alexandria. This foodie emporium caters to every tastebud with an exceptional menu mantra covering everything from their signature granola to fresh-baked pastries and house-roasted coffee. And that's before we even get to the "grounds"; the Grounds team turned a dusty industrial pocket into a green fairy-lit garden which even boasts an animal farm, home to their famed pet pig, Kevin Bacon. It single-handedly revolutionised the inner city eating scene.

But for Sydney city slickers looking for an exceptional breakfast, brunch or lunch option - taking a trip to Alexandria in your miniscule lunch break is a pipe dream. So the news that the team are opening a Grounds in the City on central George Street is a bona fide game-changer.

According to a statement, The Grounds of the City will "...capture the essence of old-school hospitality with genuine service and charm... shoe shiners will tend to those awaiting their caffeine hit." The open-style kitchen will serve an all-day brasserie-style menu with eat-in and takeaway options and their artisanal cakes will be wheeled directly to customers tables on a throw back custom-made trolley. Coffee lovers will be comprehensively catered for with the barista's bar hosting a state-of-the-art espresso machine and coffee sommeliers on hand to dispense caffeine-related advice to customers seeking a sensational cup of Joe.

The Grounds of the City will be located at 500 George St, Sydney and is set to open its doors at the end of May. Opening hours will be 7am until 6pm Mon-Wed and Fri-Sun. On Thursdays The Grounds of the City will be open 7am until late. thegroundscity.com.au
