Northern Beaches institution The Newport's summer program kicks off today, bringing a stellar - and sometimes surprising - line-up of events for every day of the week. The best bit? They're 100 per cent free.
One of the highlights is The Newport Summer Film Program, screening Hollywood classics every Monday eve, and a mix of new and iconic surf films every Tuesday.
By day, the waterfront pub is shaping up into something of a luxe fitness centre, offering yoga on the deck every Monday morning and stand-up paddle boarding sessions with Ironman Kendrick Louis, also on Mondays. Told you it was time for a sick day.
By the end of the week, the program's emphasis is back to conventional pub fun: think live music on Thursday nights and summer cocktails all week long.
And if Sydney's sudden sunny weather has you craving a weekend session of seafood and champagne, pencil November 17 in your diary - from that date onwards, every weekend a corner of The Newport is transforming into an alfresco petanque court. For $99, guests can play petanque to their hearts' content, while sipping and supping their way through a Moet Petanque Hamper with a dozen fresh prawns or oysters and a bottle of bubbly. Bliss.
