Are you already on board with the delicious build-you-own bowls at Saké Jr? Great. No doubt you've nailed your perfect combo of base/protein/veggies and your favourite dressing. But if you're anything like us and often on the go (ok, running late for your 2pm meeting), you'll love what we're about to say next. Saké Jr has now made casual Japanese dining even easier with the introduction of grab-and-go bowls, designed by none other than Rockpool alum Neil Perry.
With a Tokyo-inspired bent, the new bowls feature sustainable and ethically sourced produce like Bangalow pork, pasture-raised Tasmanian beef, MSC-certified tuna, and Tasmanian ocean trout. "As with all our endeavours, we are community and sustainability minded," says Perry. "Our ethos is simple: source responsibly, act respectfully, cook beautifully, live well."
Available as either a poké bowl, (we love the sound of MSC tuna with sushi rice, lettuce, cabbage, green beans, wakame, MSC tuna, chilli threads, sesame seeds and gochujang dressing) or a salad bowl such as miso-glazed pork with various veggies and a soy and mirin dressing - the prices range from $12-15 making this a mid-week lunch worth leaving the office for.
Of course, it's not all lunch bowls at Saké Jr. From 4pm the eatery dishes out Japanese street food delicacies such as bao buns, fried chicken and build-your-own ramen bowls. On Thursday and Friday nights get down to the outlets in Sydney's Grosvenor Place and Bourke Street in Melbourne - the new Sake Jr by Night menu is complemented by a House DJ.
The new Saké Jr menu is already available at Melbourne's Collins Lane, Sydney's Grosvenor Place and Westfield Sydney (lunch only). It comes to Melbourne's Bourke Street on February 27. For more info, visit sakejr.com.au
