New ‘unapologetically’ Spanish tapas bar opens in Sydney
Bar Tapa brings authentic Spanish dining to Stanley Street
"Nobody understands what tapas are anymore," says Manual "Manny" Terron, co-owner of newly opened Spanish tapas bar, Bar Tapa. What many people do not know about tapas is that the small plate of food was originally served as a 'lid' to cover drinks in Spain. With the help of his wife, Sarah Miller, Terron aims to re-introduce the art of classic tapas with their shared restaurant venture in Darlinghurst. "We're bringing tapas back to their roots - if people want to go out for Spanish tapas, they'll get the whole cultural experience here," says Terron.
Located in lively Stanley Street, Bar Tapas serves up unapologetically Spanish cuisine and drinks. "[We're] not selling food, but instead a cultural experience," says Miller. For every drink that you order, you receive an accompanying tapita, which can range from the house jamon to a delicious pincho taster. The menu focus is on quality ingredients and Spanish authentic cooking technique.
The venue is cool and unpretentious, with exposed brick walls, Spanish tiles, hanging jamon and a wall featuring the Virgin of Triana; the perfect space to eat and drink with groups.
Bar Tapa is located at 78 Stanley Street, Darlinghurst NSW, 2010.
