It was with a heavy heart and empty stomach that we reported on the closure of Rosebery's crowd-pleasing eatery Kitchen by Mike last month. But now we're back with good news - the eponymous chef and new Carriageworks Farmers Markets creative director has just announced plans to open a 100-seater restaurant at the Circular Quay end of Sydney's CBD in early 2016.

Taking its name from its locale in The Wintergarden, No. 1 Bent Street - by Mike will take its food cues from the beloved Rosebery canteen - think food that's seasonal, local and house-made - within a more formal dining experience, with table service and an extensive wine list to suit the suits that will no doubt flock here for Friday lunches. Like Kitchen by Mike, the menu will change daily.
"The food in the CBD just gets better and better and we are looking forward to being part of that," Mike McEnearney says. "Although the setting may be more formal, I hope it will feel familiar to those who have come to love Kitchen by Mike." Can't cope with change? McEnearney is currently scouting for a new location to reincarnate the original Rosebery canteen next year.
