They've done gelato cigars, shiraz soft serve and Wagon Wheel gelato; pavlova gelato with raspberry and passionfruit puree; cream cheese gelato with red velvet cake. But Messina's newest flavour is one of their most unusual yet - smoked peanut gelato layered with lychee meringue, passionfruit and gewürztraminer gel.
Anything that combines wine with gelato gets our tick of approval (especially when it comes out of Messina's kitchens), but this limited edition flavour, oh so appropriately named Sweet As, is inspired by the city of Wellington, New Zealand. It's all part of a collaboration between the gelato kings and Tourism New Zealand, Positively Wellington and Destination Marlborough. Because if you're looking for a way to promote your country, Messina is hands down the best way to do it (we just hope more companies catch on).

Why Wellington? Dubbed "the coolest little capital in the world" by Lonely Planet, it also made the BBC's Hottest Cities list and Rough Guide's Top 10 Cities for 2015. It's best known for its food scene (as well as some of the world's best coffee and craft beer) and now it has its own Messina flavour too. Keen for a taste? Sweet As will be available in all Messina stores for just one week from this Thursday.
