Originally opened in 2004, one of Chapel Street's most-loved eating dens re-opens its doors today, following a brief closure for a refurb. Celebrated tea master and restaurateur David Zhou has reimagined authentic Chinese teahouses for modern times.
Start with the chilli wagyu beef dumplings while sipping on an apple Sencha tea-inflused martini poured from a teapot. Then, sample new dishes such as flame thrower pulled pork dumplings & slices of pork belly; house-made tofu or the oolong tea smoked chicken fillet with raspberry tea mayonnaise (all dishes on the menu are under $18 so it won't break your budget). Finish with Chinese Wonka chocolate dumplings before heading upstairs for a nightcap of Japanese whiskey at Zhou Zhou Bar.
"Growing up on Nanjing Road, one of the busiest streets in Shanghai, the word 'teahouse' means much more than tea to me," explained Zhou. "We have created an entirely unique day-to-night experience on Chapel Street that will give people a real teahouse experience, which is a centre of interaction and relationship, a place for business, dating, family and friends."
