Since it launched in 2013, Mr Miyagi on Chapel Street, Windsor, has been drawing crowds for its moreish, modern take on Japanese cuisine - think nori tacos, tempura broccoli and Miyagi Fried Chicken (finally, that MFC hashtag accompanying Melbourne foodie 'grams makes sense).
Now, Mr Miyagi is being joined by Yukie's Snack Bar, a moody, neon-lit hangout where you can knock back a pre-dinner cocktail or make a night of it with Japanese small plates and an extensive list of Japanese whiskeys. Yukie's spruiks snacks that you can't get on the Mr Miyagi menu proper, from sticky grilled eggplant with a miso glaze to wagyu brisket in betel leaf.
The main emphasis at Yukie's, however, is the Japanese-inspired cocktails. From the Red Spider Lily (tonka bean, tequila, Cointreau, raspberry and lime) to the Cold Drip Martini (shochu, vodka, coffee, sake and white chocolate foam), they mix Japanese spirits with ingredients you'd be hard-pressed to find in a cocktail anywhere else.
