Hip Surry Hills South-East Asian favourite Sugarcane has just opened a second location in beachside beauty Coogee. Located at the southern end of the white sandy shores and with Justin Hemmes' dining and drinking mecca, Coogee Pavilion, flanking the north of the beach, Coogee is turning into a serious gourmet destination.
A local of the 'hood, Head chef and owner Milan Strbac (ex Longrain), wanted to offer the same fresh mix of authentic South-East Asian dishes he's been plating up over at his Reservoir St diner to his home community. The menu will feature his signature share plates with similar mouth-watering dishes found on the Surry Hills roster, think: beef spring rolls with cucumber relish, roti with Malaysian curry sauce and cucumber, dumplings, salt and pepper squid, pad Thai, plus a host of seasonally sourced seafood options to reference the surrounds.
Strbac has assembled an experienced crew of culinary talent in the kitchen, including Tristan Balian (ex Mr Wong) and the digs have had a sleek Asian-style beach house designer makeover (see below).
