Where does the time go? Just five short years ago celeb chef Matt Moran opened what has become an icon in the eastern suburbs eating scene, Chiswick Woollahra. So just how does a famous chef celebrate a significant birthday? Just like the rest of us with cake and drinks.
Of course it's not just any old packet mix cake, Moran is bringing out the BEST dessert - the Chiswick Bombe (a.k.a the bombe Alaska) to celebrate five amazing foodie years of Chiswick Woollahra. One of the trickiest and definitely not a DIY-at-home kind of cake - the bombe has basically everything you could ever want to eat in one immaculately presented mouth-watering dessert: cake surrounded by lime and coconut ice cream surrounded by meringue. Heaven. The drinks part of the celebration is covered in serious style with Chiswick hosting a pop-up bar on Friday evenings in March on the gorgeous green lawns in front of the restaurant. On the menu? A selection of Belvedere spritzers calling on the fresh, garden flavours Chiswick is renowned for (think: a cucumber spritz with Belvedere vodka, Dolin dry, cucumber, strawberry and soda).
Unlike your regular cake-plus-drinks happy birthday this celebration also supports a cause - Chiswick will donate $10 from every bombe dessert to The Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation... which totally justifies ordering at least two. Happy birthday Chiswick!
