It's hard to believe we're already mid-way through 2017 - but if there's one thing that surely marks the middle of the year it's the June long weekend. Granted, the Queen's birthday public holiday doesn't exactly fall in the best time of year (winter! Ugh), but if you can overlook the drop in temp for the luxury of an extra day to sleep in, then there's plenty to look forward to...

Booze, beats & eats: The Dolphin’s long weekend LA makeover

One thing we're excited about is the LA-meets-Sydney takeover at The Dolphin in Surry Hills. Featuring head chef Louis Tikaram and co-owner Grant Smilie from cool LA eatery E.P. & L.P., Sunday's aperitivo party is one way to bring some LA sunshine to a wintry Sydney's day. We're talking E.P. & L.P. food and cocktail favourites mixed back with tunes spun from DJ Grant Smilie's decks, coupled with a set from Beni and some other special guest DJs (yet to be announced) - which means this is pretty much a mini festival for inner-city kids.

Renowned for his modern-Asian fusion of Chinese, Vietnamese and Fijian flavours, Tikaram has created two specially curated menus on the day: Wine Room Aperitivo snacks (think: Fijian-style ceviche and Blue Swimmer Crab congee) from just $5 or the more extensive Bar menu which features E.P. & L.P. hits like Lou Dogg's famed Crispy Chicken Sandwich and 5 spice caramel Hock. And to wash it all down, there's an array of cocktails which come direct from E.P. & L.P.'s own rooftop cocktail bar in LA, such as their Dirty Bubble Teas and rosé-tinged LP California Love on The Roof. We'll save you a spot on the d-floor.

E.P. & L.P.'s takeover of The Dolphin takes place on Sunday, June 11 from 5pm-10pm at 412 Crown St, Surry Hills. dolphinhotel.com.au
