Sure, Bondi Beach is a show-stopping piece of eye candy, but it's now becoming known as much for its food as its famous sandy shores. From health conscious wholefood eateries like Cali Press and Porch & Parlour to cocktail and crab cakes on the beach at The Bucket List to standout Italian (A Tavola and Da Orazio Pizza + Porchetta) Bondi has some of the best and widest variety of nosh in town. But, there's always room for more... Enter Bondi's two newest must-eat addresses Shuk Bakery and Can Cava Pintxos & Wine.
Shuk Bakery is the extension of beloved Mediterranean local Shuk Bondi - which serves up some of the greatest flavour-packed dishes from their coconut yohurt breakfast mousse to their pistachio crusted salmon and classic roast cauliflower salad. The Shuk team have always baked all their goods from scratch (think perfectly poised sourdough) but realised their current queues-out-the-door address couldn't accommodate their bread and pastry baking dream, so they've opened the doors on a dedicated Shuk Bakery up the road from Shuk Bondi's digs on 40 Mitchell St, North Bondi.
On the mouth-watering menu are slew of gluten free sweet treats (think: halva and white chocolate cake, mud cake, ricotta cheesecake, choc orange pyramid cake), plus daily éclairs, tarts (all flavours from lemon meringue to passionfruit and rhubarb), croissants, cookies, health balls and savoury snacks like pizza scrolls and fresh baked bagels, baguettes and sourdough.
Bondi's second double tap of foodie love comes courtesy of Can Cava Pintxos & Wine. Taking up prime corner position on Hall Street and Glenayr Avenue, this pintxos bar brings a slice of Spain to sunny Bondi Beach. 'Pintxos' is the Northern Spanish style of tapas with bite-sized share plates the order of the day.
The direct-from-Barcelona team have taken their cues from traditional tapas and also their Aussie surrounds presenting a knockout menu of tastes like the drool-worthy charcuterie board, goats cheese croquettes, zucchini and almond tortilla, tuna tartare on homemade potato chips. And then there's the wine list... filled 100 per cent with Spanish drops it covers wines and cavas (sparkling wines) plus of course a top notch sangria option.
Shuk Bakery is located at 40 Mitchell St, North Bondi and is open Monday - Sunday 6am until 4pm. Eat in and takeaway both available.
