In an interesting twist on the classic parenting tactic of "no treats until you do your homework/tidy your room etc.", iconic American ice cream company Ben & Jerry's, whose company mantra is 'peace, love and ice cream' have announced they will no longer serve two scoops of the same ice cream flavour until Australia legalises gay marriage.

In the announcement on their website the ice cream kings say, "Imagine heading down to your local Scoop Shop to order your favourite two scoops of 'cookie dough' in a waffle cone. But you find out you are not allowed - Ben & Jerry's has banned two scoops of the same flavour. You'd be furious! But this doesn't even begin to compare to how furious you would be if you were told you were not allowed to marry the person you love. So we are banning two scoops of the same flavour and encouraging our fans to contact their MPs to tell them that the time has come - make same sex marriage legal! Love comes in all flavours!"

Here's hoping there's a few politicians around who are diehard fans of only 'chunky monkey' or only 'sweet cream and cookies' so when they can't get their double scoop fix, Ben & Jerry's stance might actually work.

Why has Ben & Jerry’s stopped serving two scoops of the same flavour?
