If there's one thing Sydneysiders excel at, it's brunch (and the Bondi to Bronte). Give us a 10am table with avocado, poached eggs and good coffee over a lunch reservation any day. But the monthly champagne brunches at Ananas Bar & Brasserie in The Rocks put all the rest to shame - bottomless champagne, the finest French food and an incredibly opulent setting tend to have that effect.
Atlantic lobster is the star of Ananas' next champagne brunch on Sunday November 22 - but before you ask why the restaurant isn't using Australian rock lobster, hear this: turns out rock lobster isn't actually, well, lobster. Nup - our waters only serve up crayfish, or langoustine as it's known in Europe, where as the real deal is the one swimming in American waters, with the huge claws we all associate with lobsters proper. And trust us: you haven't lived until you've sampled the delicious, silky meat within a proper lobster claw.

Rarely found in Australian restaurants, Atlantic lobster will be the hero ingredient of dishes ranging from lobster butter-poached with wilted greens and asparagus to luxe lobster mac 'n' cheese with cheddar and gruyere, mini lobster rolls and lobster paired with French chanterelles in risotto. There'll also be cheeseboards (what French-style brunch would be complete without them?), charcuterie and that Ananas signature, a magical dessert showcase with edible sand, hand-crafted chocolate fish, peach tacos and an array of masterful sweet treats.
Ananas' monthly brunches are fast becoming a Sydney institution, but culinary director Martin Heierling promises this one will be their most decadent yet. Bookings are essential; head to ananas.com.au to reserve your table.
