We're calling it: 2016 is going to be a massive year for anyone who likes eating or drinking (read: every single one of you). Case in point: Saké - that Chef's Hat winning, sashimi taco serving Japanese eatery with venues in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane - which is opening not one, not two, but three new sites next year - and they're not your average sushi joints.

Nup - what they're dishing up instead is Saké Live, set to be Sydney's biggest robatayaki grill and sushi bar with an elevated see-through DJ stage, three dining bars, 100-strong cocktail list and a Tokyo-inspired lighting, media and art installation. It's set to be mega, and it's slated to open mid next year.

They're not stopping there - if you're the type who likes your Japanese flavours fresh and fast, meet your new go-to: Saké Jr. More casual than the current Sakés, this guy will serve make-your-own noodle or rice-based dishes (pick and mix protein, vegies, sauces and garnishes) with a health food focus - we're calling it as the city girl's lunch choice of 2016. Look out for it in the Sydney CBD by mid-next year.

And in news for Melbourne's popcorn shrimp aficionados: a new, three-storey Saké restaurant is scheduled to open at 555 Bourke Street in the coming months, with an 80-seat sushi counter and outdoor dining area. You heard it here first.
