Tonight, two brand new bars are opening, with a third to get excited about for July. Yes, it's freezing outside, but openings like these should be enough to coax you off the couch and into a cab.
1. Raven's Eye, 127 Kings St, Newtown
First up is Raven's Eye, the third bar from the Idle Group boys behind Henrietta Supper Club in Darlinghurst and Neighbourhood in Bondi. Taking its name from the mafia hangout in the 1997 American gangster film Donnie Brasco, starring Al Pacino and Johnny Depp, the bar has been designed with a mid-twentieth century American-Italian feel. Equal parts bar and restaurant, the Raven's Eye menu is defined by Italian classics with an American twist, from pork and fennel meatballs to spaghetti vongole.

2. Barrio Cellar, 58 Elizabeth St, Martin Place
Also opening its doors tonight is the hotly anticipated tequila and taco joint Barrio Cellar, by the man who brought you the wildly popular Kings Cross Mexican bar/restaurant, Barrio Chino. The new Martin Place venue was inspired by restaurateur (and Buro culture maker) Peter Lew and his partner Nicole Galloway's recent trip to Mexico and will dish up their take on Tijuana and LA street food until 3am.
3. New Brittania, 103 Cleveland St, Chippendale
Come July there'll be a new Chippendale pub to try, again by the Idle Group: New Brittania, housed in a heritage-listed building built in 1879 by William Chippendale himself. Watch this space for more details.
