From September 17 until January 8 2017, Venice's acclaimed Ca'Pesaro International Gallery of Modern Art will play host to a very special exhibition that includes never before seen artefacts from the Chanel archives. Titled The Woman Who Reads, the seventh in the Culture Chanel exhibition series explores how books informed Gabrielle Chanel's life and work, from her thirst for reading as an orphan to her fervent love for Greek literature and contemporary poetry as an adult.

Precious objet d'art, jewellery and perfumes from Gabrielle Chanel's Paris apartment will be displayed for the very first time, along with 350 pieces that span photographs, paintings and drawings. A wardrobe of ensembles that reveals Gabrielle Chanel's taste for classicism, the baroque, Russian and Venetian gold will also be on show.

Venice was one of Gabrielle Chanel's primary sources of inspiration, so it's fitting this exhibition will take place there. Planning a trip to the continent? Add this to your itinerary.
