Big and wispy is out; short and sweet is in, at least according to the latest beauty trend to emerge on the red carpet. Introducing micro-bangs: the forehead baring haircut that you're either going to love or loathe. While traditional bangs brush your eyebrows, micro-bangs are typically cut an inch or so shorter, keeping your brows (and large portion of your forehead) on full display.

The cropped fringe was most recently sported by Emma Roberts on the red carpet at The Critics' Choice Awards over the weekend and has also been seen adorning the forehead of Emma Watson (the haircut seems to have an affinity for Emma's), Alison Sudol and Bella Hadid over the past few months. While Watson and Sudol opted for a wispy uneven cut, Roberts changed things up with a dramatic blunt interpretation of the hairstyle.

If you feel the haircut reminds you of that time you and your friend decided it was a good idea to cut DIY bangs in primary school the day before school photos - don't worry, you're not alone. But the cropped fringe doesn't have to be something you commit to with scissors - try clip-in inserts ala Bella Hadid; they will give you a taste of the modern style and are 100% commitment-free. And if your name is Emma and you're still not feeling the trend, maybe stay away from the scissors for the time being.
