And we're not talking your stock standard body lotion. Pioneered by South Korean beauty brands, the new generation lotions are ultra-hydrating, high-potent hybrids that simultaneously moisturise, protect and energise the face. "In the skincare world, South Korea has become the new France and they're about 12 years ahead of the States in terms of technology," says Lancôme skincare expert Michelle Gataric, confirming what we suspected already. "Koreans are known for their flawless skin [and] they use an energising lotion which acts as a moisture magnet while relieving dullness and revitalising."
So how exactly do you use it? Lotion should be the first product you apply to your face after cleansing (yep, even before your serum). "A lotion is a thick, smooth liquid preparation designed to be applied to the skin for medicinal and cosmetic purposes," explains Gataric. Want in? Lancôme have just released the Énergie de Vie Lotion, a unique liquid formula that targets the dullness caused by lack of sleep and stress to restore a dewy glow. "The lotion-in-gel turns into a subtle veil of moisture to leave the skin hydrated, velvety and smooth," says Gataric. "The translucent gel texture with air bubbles provides a lightweight and fresh effect while the gel breaks into water."
The revolutionary formula is concocted using detoxifying and energizing Chinese millenary roots, including gentian, wild yam, tamarin fruit and soybean extracts. But don't worry, it doesn't smell like a stir fry - instead, it's scented with Lancôme's signature floral rose with notes of amber, patchouli and vetiver.
If you're reticent about adding yet another product to your skincare regimen, just take a minute to remember those flawless South Korean complexions - the result of blessed genetics yes, but also an impressive 10-step routine. "Korean women aren't about stripping the skin, instead they add products to nurture it," explains Gataric. See for youself with our top three magic lotions, pictured above.
