It is the first week of December, after all - and we're guessing it isn't just your wardrobe that's crying out for a refresh. "Each year when the weather warms up we see a lean towards pastels and neons," says Monika Carvalho of The Nail Lab. "Go bright (from fire engine reds to neon pinks) or pale (from pastel blues to rose gold metallics) and leave your dark moody shades until the return of autumn in 2016."
This year, the nudes and pastels we dust off each spring have an unexpected edge, care of fancy nail art and new finishes. "Winter was all about the matte black but summer sees this chic finishing effect best used over pastels and nudes," Carvalho says. Not a fan of matte? Ask your manicurist for a subtle (and low-maintenance) take on nail art instead.

But we're not talking OTT bling and blinding colour: this season, it's about a more minimalist approach. Marbling and graphics on otherwise bare nails are the key trends to try. "From whites and greys with a hint of metallic through to a tie-dye neon effect, this is one of our most requested looks in salon," Carvalho confirms. "Negative space is THE nail art trend of the season. Think blank canvas nails with geometric lines and bare nails with a bright French tip."
