'90s revival: the 5 beauty trends coming back

The new grunge chic

Well, no-one saw this coming

We know fashion and beauty trends are cyclical and what goes around comes around, but we didn't think that rule applied to the '90s. Because if the '80s are the decade that style forgot, the '90s are when style got thrown completely out the window. Anyone who still has a dried-up tube of hair mascara (purchased at Red Earth, of course, along with a few too many pots of of body glitter) knows what we mean.

But it wasn't all scary-skinny eyebrows and even scarier slut strands (we blame Julia Stiles in 10 Things I Hate About You) - the decade also delivered a mean matte lip, gorgeously voluminous (yet effortless) hair and some killer accessories that we're ready to give another go. It's not just us, either - Gigi Hadid is just one of a crop of current models adopting trends they quite possibly weren't around for the first time (how's that to make you feel old).

They make a very strong case, too. From bold lips coated in matte brown, burgundy and brick red (if you want to really commit, dig out your mocha eyeshadow to match), to gorgeously voluminous side flip hair, the '90s have never looked better. We're even seeing hints that mini buns are back in vogue, if Georgia May Jagger's sweet selfie is anything to go by. Add a pair of Doc Martens and a leather biker jacket and you're good to go (but take note: butterfly clips and body glitter don't belong this side of the 21st century. You've been warned).
