There are three things the French do exceptionally well: fashion, beauty and food. At least two of the three will become one this September, when the Sonia Rykiel x Lancôme collection drops for Fall '16.
We can just about picture the scene: Sonia Rykiel's enviably stylish artistic director Julie de Libran, engaged in a tête-à-tête with Lancôme's MD Francois Lehmann over croissants and café au lait, chatting palettes and their vision of rich autumnal colours. Somehow, we don't think Parisians make these decisions in grey-walled boardrooms.
"In Lancôme I see the free and joyful Rykiel woman who makes her own choices," explains de Libran who, since her arrival at Sonia Rykiel two years ago, has reinvented the novelty-edged chic of the label's founder. "A beauty that is sometimes natural, sometimes sophisticated, but never subjected to diktats. Our two houses share a modern vision of femininity which, I believe, is tangible for today's women."
Lancôme has previously collaborated with Alber Elbaz, Jason Wu and Anthony Vaccarello.
