Coco Chanel's love affair with red - first realised in a Chanel lipstick in 1924 and in hot demand ever since - has been totally revamped care of the house's new global creative designer for make-up and colour, Lucia Pica. And we can't remember the last time we fell so hard for a make-up look.
For her first Chanel collection, Pica has subverted all the major make-up rules, putting red on eyes and aubergine on lashes. Want Kristen Stewart's sultry red take on the smokey eye, as pictured above? You'll need the new Les 4 Ombres powder shadow palette, a pot of luxurious Illusion D'Ombre Velvet and a slick of the new Stylo Yeux waterproof eye pencils in Eros (a brown, burgundy-hued red) or Agapé (a rich reddy brown). Finish with a flick of Dimensions de Chanel aubergine-black mascara in Subversif.
Other highlights include the ultimate blush for anyone who shies away from rosy pink cheeks: Joues Contraste Rouge Profond, a reddish silken powder unlike any blush we've encountered - think a-rush-of-blood- to-the-head kind of flush. Six new red lipsticks - two Rouge allure and four matte Rouge Allure Velvet - lip pencils and two nail polishes round out the range. We love the Le Vernis Gloss Rouge Radical, a jelly-like, semi-transparent red.
Le Rouge - Collection N°1 hits Chanel beauty counters on Sunday July 31.
