The new shellac: why you need to try SNS nails
Better, thinner, stronger
You might have spotted a curious hashtag accompanying those #ManiMonday posts on Instagram today - #snsnails. It's not the new OPI, but a revolutionary manicure method we're loving because a) it doesn't require UV light; b) it claims to actually strengthen your nails while you wear it and c) it's just as long-lasting and glossy as gel and Shellac.
Short for Signature Nail Systems, the relatively new technique involves alternating between coats of gel polish and dipping the nails into a powder made up of organically processed chemicals including titanium dioxide, acrylic ester polymer and calcium. Because there's no harsh chemicals involved, there's none of that hit-you-over-the-head nail salon smell, plus the layers of powder leave you with a stronger, chip-proof finish.
If you're worried about the UV radiation you're exposed to with every Saturday morning mani, SNS seems to be the best in-salon alternative. Or, try the new gel lacquers coming out that promise longwearing DIY digits, sans the lamp.
