If strong, independent, passionate women had a scent; it would be Estée Lauder's 2013 fragrance Modern Muse, and if this fragrance could be personified, it would look something like American ballet dancer Misty Copeland. The first African American woman to become a principal dancer in the American Ballet Theatre, and named one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People, it seems only fitting that the Estée Lauder today announced Copeland as the official spokesperson for their powerful, feminine perfume.

"Misty is the perfect representation of today's modern muse," said Aerin Lauder, Style and Image Director, Estée Lauder. "She is all about feminine strength, power, dedication and passion, and you see that in what she does every day, whether she is performing or inspiring the next generation of dancers. I think she is a wonderful role model and I am thrilled to welcome her to the Estée Lauder brand."

Misty has been studying ballet since she was thirteen years old. The now 34 year old has several accolades under her tutu. Copeland made history as the first black woman to dance as Odette in the American Ballet Theatre's Swan Lake, she was appointed into the President's Council of Fitness by Barack Obama and is a dedicated philanthropist, mentoring young girls and boys, among being a New York Times bestselling author.

"I am so honoured to represent Estée Lauder Modern Muse," said Copeland. "My two passions are dance and giving back, and I love passing on knowledge to the next generation. I also have a strong connection to the scents I wear when I perform. The Modern Muse campaign is the perfect way to see another side of my story."

Modern Muse is a floral, woody scent with notes of jasmine, mandarin, honeysuckle nectar, tuberose and fresh lily.
