Powerful, crisp and seductively spiced, Dior's new men's fragrance was worth the wait
Updated: Like pieces of a puzzle falling into place, the full video of Johnny Depp for Dior's Sauvage scent was released this morning. Featuring Depp (complete with guyliner), the desert and some sexy guitar riffs, take a look at the campaign below.
We've been waiting for this since news broke that legendary actor Johnny Depp had agreed to front a fragrance campaign - for none other than Dior. And now that the wait is finally over, we can report that the hotly anticipated new scent more than delivers. Strong and complex, it combines notes of exclusive Reggio bergamot essence - secured as a custom signature for Dior - for a zesty citrus zing, rounded out by amber, elemi (a resin blended with frankincense), Sichuan pepper, pink pepper, geranium, vetiver and hints of lavender and patchouli. "To create Sauvage, I used man as my starting point. A strong and unmistakable masculinity. Like the image of a man who transcends time and fashion," says Dior's Perfumer-Creator, Francois Demachy.

But what of Johnny Depp? The quintessential man who can't be tamed, he appears in a raw, wild film shot by Jean-Baptiste Mondino in the cacti-strewn dessert of Joshua Tree National Park, in South-eastern California. The visceral score is the work of Grammy award-winning guitarist Ry Cooder - a gripping accompaniment to Depp's acting prowess as he embodies the Dior Sauvage.
